These pediatric designations are not interchangeable

  • A Comprehensive Children's Emergency Receiving Center, a hospital with pediatric intensive-care service, and a pediatric trauma center describe different capabilities.
  • Orange County Global Medical Center is listed for pediatric intensive care for burn patients only.
  • Rady Children's Hospital Orange County is the pediatric trauma center identified on the current specialty-services and trauma-center lists.

Pediatric specialty destinations at a glance

  • The table combines the pediatric categories in OCEMS Policy 240.30, effective June 1, 2026, with the pediatric-only trauma note in Policy 240.10.
  • A dash means the facility is not listed under that service in the cited current OCEMS documents; it is not a statement about every hospital capability.

What each designation means for this guide

  • Pediatric intensive care: Mission Hospital - Mission Viejo and Rady Children's Hospital Orange County are listed generally; Orange County Global Medical Center is listed for burn patients only.

Field routing sequence

  1. Identify the clinical pathway first: general pediatric emergency, critical-care need, burn, or trauma.
  2. Apply the current pediatric standing order and any specialty or trauma criteria.
  3. Obtain pediatric-capable base contact or destination direction when required by the applicable policy.
  4. Confirm current receiving status and communicate age, weight, acuity, specialty need, treatments, and response.
