What skills verification does
Skills verification documents demonstrated competency; it does not independently renew an EMT certificate. For applicants using OCEMS, Policy 410.00 describes verification by direct observation of actual or simulated patient contact.
The policy allows a currently certified/licensed EMT, AEMT, paramedic, RN, PA or physician designated by an EMS-approved training program, CE provider or EMS service provider to verify competency. A colleague’s signature without the required designation is not sufficient.
OCEMS lists a maximum two-year verification validity for recertification. Confirm the current accepted form and application requirements with your certifying entity; the linked county policy is an older document still linked from its current instructions.
Skills, CE, certification and local scope are separate
OCEMS Policy 410.00 lists at least 24 approved CE hours or an approved 24-hour refresher, skills verification, application and other recertification requirements. A skills class is not automatically a 24-hour refresher or a completed renewal application.
The OC expanded-scope driver/attendant class supports local licensing. It is a different service from skills verification. NREMT certification and California EMT certification also have separate processes.
For a lapsed certificate, changing certifying entities or an out-of-state application, obtain the exact pathway from the certifying entity first. Do not assume the routine renewal checklist is sufficient.
External provider: West Coast EMT. Its EMT Skills Competency Verification Testing course is offered at its Orange County campus in Anaheim; OCMedic does not offer, teach or verify this class.
The provider lists $100 tuition and approximately three hours. The advertised session time spans can differ; verify the exact check-in/end time at signup. Fees and schedules were checked September 30, 2026.

Ask which form your certifying entity accepts and bring the required documents. Check that every required skill is verified and that evaluator/provider details and dates are complete.
Keep a copy of the completed form and submit it with your application, CE/refresher record and other required documents before expiration. Verify approval in the licensing system; attendance alone does not prove renewal.
